CLIO, Plumas County — October 28, 2026. An older steel-girder bridge near Clio is on Plumas County’s list of public works projects in development. The county identifies Clio Bridge (No. 9C-0057) as needing girder cleaning and painting, additional rehabilitation and improved road-edge safety features.

What does the work involve?

The county’s published Clio Bridge project description calls for cleaning and painting rusted steel girders, replacing joint seals, repairing bearings and bearing seats, and improving transition rails and end treatments. An accompanying project-services agreement describes additional potential work to protect the bridge deck and improve approach guardrails and roadway shoulders.

Although bridge painting might sound cosmetic, protective coatings are an important part of maintaining steel in a region exposed to moisture and winter conditions. Joint repairs and transitions between a roadway and a bridge can also affect safety and long-term maintenance.

Where is the bridge?

The project agreement identifies the location as County Road 115 (Clio–State 40A Road), where the crossing passes over the Middle Fork Feather River, near State Route 89. The crossing is associated with bridge number 9C-0057. The county’s history says the original bridge dates to 1953, with a reinforced-concrete deck installed later to replace a timber deck.

Is the bridge currently closed?

The county’s online projects index lists this work under Projects in Development. California58 has not verified a current bridge closure, construction contract award or announced completion date for 2026. Residents should therefore regard the listed repair work as the county’s proposed program, not assume traffic is currently blocked or that a completion ceremony has occurred.

Funding and next steps

A county contract amendment describes the project as federally funded through the Federal Highway Bridge Program, administered through Caltrans. It addresses right-of-way services, which are part of preparatory work. Future bidding, construction and road-control arrangements should be confirmed from new county notices before any travel advice changes.
